Talks
There’s nothing I like more than talking about my passion !
Over the past couple of years I have given over 250 talks to camera clubs and societies around the world. I welcome the opportunity to speak to old friends and new. My goal is to inspire, educate and entertain my audience with my imagery from around the world and closer to home. My presentation style is informal and engaging and all talks are packed with hints, tips and techniques. But don’t take my word for it, see the feedback below.
I am an official Fujifilm Ambassador and an Associate of The Royal Photographic Society.
My current range of talks are listed below and are all designed to last around 90 minutes with a break in the middle.
My fee for a Zoom talk is £95. In person talks are based on a lecture fee plus travel - please enquire for a specific price.

TRAVELS WITH MY “X”
As a Fujifilm Ambassador and Travel photographer, I have visited many wonderful locations around the world capturing images using my Fujfilm X-Series cameras. In this talk I’ll take you with me and explain how I shot some of my favourite images. Packed with plenty of hints and tips this talk will help you make the most of your next trip, whatever camera you shoot with.
FINDING THE BEAUTY IN NATURE
In this talk I demonstrate how to best capture the beauty of the landscape and the world around us. I shoot a variety of styles, from the wide sweeping vistas to the more intimate details of the landscape. Packed with advice for getting the most out of a shoot, from the way I plan it to seeking out the best light and constructing my compositions.
THORESBY THE END OF THE MINE
Thoresby Colliery, the last pit in Nottinghamshire, closed in July 2015 bringing to an end over 900 years of mining in the county. This presentation tells the story of how the project came about, how it was shot and the resulting exhibition, AV, book and extensive publicity. A great example of “how to shoot a project”.
PASSION FOR PICTURES
This presentation really does have something for everyone, with a broad selection of images from around the world and close to home. The lecture contains many examples of how I work to develop the image in the field or in post processing to achieve the desired result.
INCREDIBLE INDIA
A fantastic country where people, colour, noise, traffic, culture, poverty and beauty assault your senses and provide countless photographic opportunities. From Delhi, with it’s colonial history, to the vibrant and colourful Rajasthan and ending in marvellous Mumbai the presentation captures the spirit of this wonderful land.
SIMPLY BLACK & WHITE
Whilst the majority of my work is in colour my photographic journey started with black and white. I’ll never forget the magic of seeing those prints appear in the developing tray. In these digital days I am increasingly drawn towards the simple beauty of monochrome which strips away the confusion of colour and asks us to appreciate the light, tone, texture and detail in our images.
ESSENTIAL COMPOSITION
20 Ways to Improve your images Many photographers cite composition as the most difficult aspect of photography to master. Whether you are perplexed and confused about the subject, need to refresh your technique or want a burst of creativity this presentation will help you improve your image creation.
THE ART OF TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY
A must see lecture for anyone who enjoys travel photography whether that be on a family holiday or a bespoke photographic trip. Featuring images from around the world and packed with hints & tips on technique, equipment and preparation this presentation will really help you to improve your travel photography.
THE WAY I SEE IT
The most commonly asked question I get is, “how do you see a picture”? Most people are thinking about composition when asking this question, but achieving a good image requires much more than that. In this talk, I share my learnings from over 30 years of photography and the last 10 years running tours and workshops. I will explain my 7 step plan to achieve better images. Packed with hints and tips it will help you appraise where you are on your photographic journey and inspire you to continue your development taking your photography to the next level.
VIVA CUBA!
Caught in a 1950's time warp Cuba is a unique place in the world. Its vibrant colour, stunning architecture that reflects its colonial past contrasting with the decaying beauty of other buildings and wonderful people make this a photographers paradise.
